Finally, our generation has woken up to the fact that we must learn to eat healthier once more. You will have no doubt seen more than a few recommendations about food that has been advised. To this end, books were written, keep fit courses were sold, and all sorts of advice followed. In spite of that, the average life expectancy of 70 years has remained the same as in centuries past.

So, what are the foods you need to eat to stay healthy?

Anything, but in moderation is the message, which actually means you must avoid gluttony. The most important thing is to take those ads that offer superior benefits of their health inducing, weight reducing products with a pinch of salt. What we could do with is a good old fashioned balanced diet.

Do not fall for fad foods for the reason that is what they are - a fad or a trend. If the advertising was true, some of those fad foods should have stayed on in the marketplace and have grown in market share as far as food choices are concerned. Nothing has and nothing will, because the price paid is overly high for the benefit received and people in the end could see through that.

Instead eat food that tastes good. Eat all foods that are suggested in the good old food chart.

The body needs sodium, it helps cleanse the body and prevent illnesses. The body needs fat. Fat insulates us from the elements and helps keep our body lubricated as machinery is lubricated. Fat additionally keeps our skin supple and feeling more youthful. Make sure you include protein in your diet as you need it above all for healing and during the years of growth. Calories are needed to maintain energy levels and so is sugar. Remember that all food types need to be taken in the right quantities but just in moderation.

The dilemma is not the food in itself; the problem is the opinion towards food. It is the preference of one food group over the other that keeps the system unbalanced and wanting of nutrients that weakens the body. Today's lifestyle gives us excuses or prevents us from eating suitably and instead we turn to junk food more and more.

Essentially, there are just two sorts of food found in nature, apart from those in the food groups that scientists have categorized. One is food for nutrition, the other are food for remedies and healing. Some examples of these are garlic, turmeric and further herbs too many to mention. Each food has its own role and counter action; every food has different properties and usually counter-balances another food type.

In an endeavor to market a product, a brand name, or an idea, what results is a scare that effects in limiting us with food options often to those that we do not take pleasure in. The limiting of food choices keeps on evolving so that if everything that is heard or marketed is listened to, nothing is worthy of eating anymore.

Every region on the planet will always provide a balanced food source for that region. Foods grown in the US are different from those grown in China. But when examined closely, the tastes may change but the same balancing effect in the diet is present, anywhere in the world. That should tell us something. The planet provides everything for our enjoyment and health. Anyone who is not trying to sell something will say the same thing, that we should eat all the food groups in proper quantities and proportions. That way we enjoy life, that way we stay truly healthy.
